Maybe it's Elvis' fault.

The King may be long gone, but that hasn't stopped him from appearing everywhere, thanks to the legions of impersonators and their fans.

But it's not just Elvis. Led Zeppelin, Tom Petty, the Stones, AC/DC — all have performed in the North Bay in recent months. Not the real bands, but tribute bands.

Love them or hate them, tribute bands are growing, thanks to fans who may have seen the real band live and want to reminisce or those who were too young but want to experience “what it was like.”

For the musicians themselves, it's a way to pack a club full of people who know every word and guitar lick — something they might not experience if they tried to make a living in rock 'n' roll with original music, or so a handful of local tribute band musicians tell here reporter Jeff Burkhart in this week's Covered.

Have a favorite tribute band? Know of a band who should be tributed? Let me know by e-mail at editor.here@gmail.com.
