First up, on Feb. 12, we have said Grammy winner, when veteran folk artist Loudon Wainwright III, who just won his first award a little more than a week ago, takes the stage at the Mystic Theatre in Petaluma ($23, $25 at the door, 18 and older, 8 p.m.). One wonders why Wainwright didn't go the route of Hugh Anthony Cregg III, who might be better known as Huey Lewis. One does.
Blazing lead guitarist No. 1 is Miles Schon (son of Neil Schon of Journey) when he and the rest of the boys of Milestone rock Fairfax's 19 Broadway on Feb. 12 ($10, 9 p.m.). Also helping out will be openers, the Holdouts.
Blazing guitarist No. 2 is the slightly more seasoned (OK, a lot more seasoned) blues scorcher Tommy Castro, who brings his fiery blues guitar to the Mill Valley Masonic ($20 to $30, 8 p.m.) on the same night. San Rafael's Club 101 also gets in on “the Vibe” featuring the Cole Tate Band along with special guest Lynn Asher on vocals ($10, 9:30 p.m.)
Then on Feb. 13, we experience some déjà vu, when Tommy Castro appears again, this time out at Rancho Nicasio ($20, 8:30 p.m.). Meanwhile, the Mystic Theatre in
Santa Rosa presents caliente guitarist No. 3 when Frank Hannon, lead guitarist for Tesla, brings his solo act to the Last Day Saloon also on Feb. 13. Odds are the $13 in advance or $15 at the door will get some of the romantic hits from Tesla's 1994 album “Bust a Nut,” or the arena anthem “Little Suzie.” Incidentally long-haired freaky people need not apply (9:30 p.m.). Also appearing will be Luvplanet and 21 Grams.
Then on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, former New Rider of the Purple Sage, David Nelson brings his band to the Mill Valley Masonic for a 6:30 p.m. show. He proves that he is no “Friend of the Devil” because $5 from each paid admission ($30) will go to benefit the people of Haiti. Now, that is showing some heart.
Also Feb. 14 and also in Mill Valley, songstress Maria Muldaur, who graced the cover of August 1974's Rolling Stone magazine (only the fourth female rock artist to do so) brings her “Romantic Evening of Music for Lovers” to 142 Throckmorton; $28 to $38 gets you the oasis, but it is doubtful it'll last until midnight, because the show starts at 8 p.m. FYI: the Marin Rocks museum is still looking for a copy of that Rolling Stone magazine just in case anyone has one.
Finally, in Kenwood (five miles south of Santa Rosa on Highway 12) the Deerfield Ranch Winery presents “Wine & Roses: Songwriters in the Round/A Valentine's Evening in the Caves,” which will feature singer songwriters Natasha James, Jeffrey Halford, Michael O'Neill and Pete Olson; $35 gets you the music, the wine tasting and the potential for love. Make sure you are with whom you are supposed to be with, because the event will be live streaming in HD video in conjunction with Live 365/Womens Radio (6 to 9 p.m.). Fair warning given.
