It has been four decades, after all, which means some of those rockers are now pushing into their 70s.
Jimi Hendrix, whose star exploded at Woodstock and who is frozen in time, will be honored with a special tribute at West Fest.
Hendrix played a free concert at the same venue - Speedway Meadows - in 1967. Hendrix historian Steve Roby of San Rafael plans to gather 3,000 guitar players to collaborate on Hendrix's "Purple Haze." His goal is to break the Guinness record for largest guitar ensemble, set last year when Country Joe McDonald rounded up 2,052 acoustic guitarists to play Woody Guthrie's "This Land Is Your Land."
